Scholarship deadlines don’t wait for anyone. And some of the big names you keep seeing in your feed? They already closed this month.
So here’s the honest version. First, what’s still open or opening soon. Then, what you’ve missed and when it comes back around. Where a date isn’t official yet, I’ve marked it expected, so you don’t plan around a guess.

1. Gates Cambridge Scholarship
Deadline: Dec 8, 2026 or Jan 6, 2027 (international round)
Host country: United Kingdom
Starting date: 2027/28 academic year
Monthly stipend: £23,152 for 12 months at the 2026–27 rate
This one has two rounds, and mixing them up is an easy way to lose a year. The US round (for US citizens living in the US) closed Oct 14, 2026. Everyone else applies in the international round.
Your deadline depends on your course. It’s either Dec 8, 2026 or Jan 6, 2027, whichever the Cambridge Course Directory lists as the “Course Funding Deadline” for your program. Don’t assume. Look it up.
Important notes:
- It covers the full University Composition Fee, a maintenance allowance, an economy flight at each end of your course, and inbound visa costs including the Immigration Health Surcharge.
- You’re applying through the Cambridge application portal, not a separate Gates form, so your course application has to be done on time too.
- Cambridge warns some courses close early if they fill up, so don’t wait for the last week.
- Roughly two-thirds of awards go to PhD students. Master’s applicants face stiff competition.

2. Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters
Deadline: Different for every program, mostly Oct 2026 to Jan 2027
Host country: Multiple European countries
Starting date: September 2027
Monthly stipend: Up to €1,400 (varies by program)
There’s no single Erasmus Mundus application. Each Joint Master’s program runs its own, with its own deadline and requirements. That’s the part that trips people up.
Important notes:
- You can apply to a maximum of three programs in one year.
- Some programs close earlier than January, so check each one individually.
- Scholarship deadlines can be earlier than the regular admission deadlines. Make sure you’re looking at the scholarship one.
- Start by browsing the official Erasmus Mundus catalogue on the Erasmus+ website, then shortlist three programs that genuinely fit your field.

3. Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary)
Deadline: Expected around Jan 15, 2027 (not yet confirmed)
Host country: Hungary
Starting date: September 2027
Monthly stipend: Confirm in the 2027/28 call
The 2027/28 call hasn’t been published yet. The pattern is clear though. Last cycle opened in November and closed on Jan 15, 2026 at 2 p.m. Central European Time. Expect something similar, but wait for the official call before you plan.
Important notes:
- You apply through the online system, and your country’s nominating body also gets a say. For Pakistani applicants that means following the HEC process, so check their announcement as well as the Hungarian portal.
- Missing the deadline by a few minutes voids the application. Submit days early.
- Start getting documents translated and attested now. That’s what slows most people down.
- Applying through the scholarship doesn’t carry an application fee, according to the program’s own materials.

4. Türkiye Burslari (Turkey)
Deadline: Expected Jan 10 to Feb 20, 2027 (not yet confirmed)
Host country: Turkey
Starting date: September 2027
Monthly stipend: Confirm when the 2027 call opens
The official 2027 dates haven’t been announced. The usual window is about six weeks from mid-January to Feb 20, and the portal is known for slowing down near the end.
Important notes:
- Undergraduate and associate applicants must be under 21 when they apply.
- You can list up to 12 university and program preferences in one application.
- Many awardees start with a Turkish language year before the degree itself begins.
- The Türkiye Başarı Bursu (Success Scholarship) is a different thing, for students already studying in Turkey, with its own window.

5. Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals
Deadline: Expected around Feb 2027 (not yet confirmed)
Host country: Sweden
Starting date: Autumn 2027
Monthly stipend: SEK 12,000 in the 2026/27 round (2027/28 amount to be confirmed)
This is a two-step process. First you apply for a master’s program through University Admissions (expect mid-October to mid-January). Then you submit a separate scholarship application during a short window, usually in February.
Important notes:
- Only citizens of a specific list of countries are eligible. Check whether yours is on it before you spend time on this.
- The 2026/27 round also paid a travel grant of SEK 15,000 for students not already living in Sweden. Confirm whether that continues.
- The scholarship window is only about two weeks, so have your documents ready before it opens.
- This one favors people with work experience, not just fresh graduates.

6. Fulbright (Pakistan)
Deadline: Closed (April 1, 2026 for the 2027 cycle)
Host country: United States
Starting date: 2027–28 academic year
Monthly stipend: Modest living stipend, set per program
Fulbright deadlines depend on your country. In Pakistan, USEFP runs it, and the 2027 student round closed April 1, 2026. If the pattern holds, the next round opens around February 2027. That’s a guess based on this year’s timing, so watch usefp.org.
Important notes:
- USEFP lists coverage as tuition, required textbooks, airfare, a modest living stipend and health insurance.
- Clinical medicine isn’t eligible.
- Academics should note the Fulbright Scholar Program in Pakistan closes Oct 28, 2026.
- USEFP warns against using generative AI to write the application essay. Take that seriously.

7. Schwarzman Scholars
Deadline: Closed (next global deadline expected Sept 2027)
Host country: China (Tsinghua University, Beijing)
Starting date: August 2028 for the next class
Monthly stipend: Personal stipend included (confirm amount)
The 2027–28 class closed on Sept 9, 2026. For the class of 2028–29, the China window runs March to May 2027, and the US and global window runs April to September 2027.
Important notes:
- You must be at least 18 but not yet 29 on Aug 1, 2028. Turn 29 before that and you can’t apply.
- It covers tuition, room and board, flights, study tours in China, books, health insurance and a stipend.
- There’s no application fee, and the program pays for interview travel.

8. Rhodes Scholarship
Deadline: Mostly closed for 2027 entry (varies by constituency)
Host country: United Kingdom (Oxford)
Starting date: October 2027
Monthly stipend: Living stipend included
Applications opened June 1, 2026. The US deadline was Oct 7, 2026. Each country or region sets its own dates, and you can only apply through your own constituency.
Important notes:
- One tracker says the Global constituency (for countries without their own) is suspended. Other sites still list it. Confirm directly on the Rhodes Trust site before assuming you can apply.
- Applying to more than one constituency gets you disqualified.
- Many constituencies need an endorsement or an earlier internal deadline.

9. Chevening
Deadline: Closed Oct 6, 2026 at 11:00 UTC
Host country: United Kingdom
Starting date: September/October 2027
Monthly stipend: Covered (living expenses)
This one is gone for this cycle. Applications opened Aug 4 and closed Oct 6. Interviews happen mid-February to April 2027, and results come out from mid-June.
Important notes:
- If you applied, your next deadline is July 8, 2027, 17:00 BST, to submit at least one unconditional UK offer.
- Next year’s round is expected to open around August 2027. Start your essays in the spring.
- It covers tuition, living expenses, return flights and visa costs.

How to avoid missing the next one
Pick two or three scholarships from this list, not nine. Put the real deadline on your calendar a week early, and start your documents now. Most people lose scholarships to paperwork, not to weak profiles.
